For the first time since she was three, Miss Cindy Makita, the winner of the 2019 Miss African Roots USA (MARU) cultural pageant, will be visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo, her home country, after winning the cultural pageant in Miami, Florida, few weeks ago.

The visit to Africa, which is part of the first official assignment of the crown queen, will be sponsored by one of Africa's biggest airlines, Royal Air Maroc.

This was disclosed to Saturday Tribune by the organiser of the Miss African Roots USA, Mr Murphy Folorunsho, who stated that the airline which recently flagged off its direct flight from Africa to Miami, was "committed to activities that celebrate African heritage, culture and tradition especially the ones that seek to connect all Africans to what is most important to their history, their roots".

Speaking he said, "By supporting Miss African Roots USA, Royal Air Maroc is authenticating its strong position in not only connecting Africa to the world, but also encouraging young people to redefine themselves as well as contribute to society".

“Miss African Roots cultural pageant," Miss Makita told Saturday Tribune in her response, " has given me the opportunity to go to a nation that is close to my heart”.

"I was about three years when my parents took me there for the first time on a short trip, but I have many family members there, people I long to see. I am very excited that this trip will give me the opportunity to not only see my family, but also to make a difference.”

Beside the all-expense paid trip to any country via the Royal Air Maroc flight, the winner of the maiden edition of  the first cultural pageant in the United States of America was entitled to a brand new car, cash prizes, free spa and make-up sessions for the two years of her tenure as queen.

Speaking about her pet projects after assuming office as MARU winner , the Miami Afrobeat dance trainer, who outclassed two Nigerian contestants in the competition to emerge winner, said,  “The platform  is going to give me the opportunity to amplify the cause for women and girls globally and specifically in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“I want to make sure women and girls in DRC are free from violence, that they have equal rights, that they have equal access to education and  healthcare; that women and girls have equal opportunities to fulfill their greatest potential and  that women and girls can live free.

Born in South Africa by Congolese parents, Miss Makita relocated to the United States where she commenced her tertiary education in International Business at the Florida International University, graduating Magna Cum Laude, but has been working as an Afrobeats dance trainer in the Sunshine state before emerging winner of the Miss African Roots USA.
